Belridge Secondary College Performing Arts Centre by art maker

Congratulations to Iredale Pedersen Hook Architects for receiving a commendation, in the 2021 WA Architecture Awards. Belridge Secondary College Performing Arts Centre attracted a Commendation in the lighting category, The Mondoluce WA Lighting Award.

In their own words “The Belridge Secondary College Performing Arts Centre transforms the drama of the interior into a dynamic and engaging exterior experience that shifts the audience from passive observer into excited and willing participant… The design focuses on the capacity of architecture to enrich the experience of performances and to connect performers and audience ...”

The artwork contribution to this project is an illuminated glazed facade - light-box, welcoming people on approach to the building entry. Light Application devised a system of even warm white backlighting within a tight wall cavity, to make the artwork glow. Cooling Brothers achieved high quality print reproduction in the large digiglass printed panels.

Cooling Brothers Glass Company have published an insightful article about the Yanchep Secondary College public artworks, Rhythm & Flow.

A suite of architecturally integrated artworks were commissioned by the Department of Education through the Western Australian Government’s Percent for Art Scheme, and completed in 2018.

Cooling Brothers compiled an interview which delves into the conceptual inspiration, creative process and the technical details of production of two large glazed walls which function as windbreaks, providing shelter from the prevailing winds. Imagink printed supergraphics are encapsulated within the glass, resulting in exceptionally durable artworks.

There are some great photographs included with their article post.
